A WONDROUS CONTAGION OF 1518

In the year during 1518, a most peculiar affliction struck the city throughout Strasbourg. Upon a dreary day, Frau Troffea, a woman lauded, was witnessed dancing in the streets violently. Her zeal was unmatched, and it danced unrelenting for days. Folklore spread like wildfire as others began by a similar compulsion to dance. Hundreds of the city
